Do You Have a Story to Tell ?

American Citizens Abroad American Citizens Abroad is undertaking a project to publish a collection of non-fiction stories by Americans living abroad. We are soliciting contributions from U.S. citizens living around the world. All contributions are welcome.

Americans who live abroad , who number approximately 4 million, and those who have returned to the U.S. represent a particularly rich – if little understood – part of our national character.

If you think you have a story to tell, this is your opportunity. Send us a story, ideally between 2,000 and 3,000 words (see below for more information) about your experiences living in a foreign country or working on a foreign assignment. Tell us about joys and frustrations, what viewing your country from the outside in is like, or how you relate to the United States you left behind.

In the immortal words of Mark Twain,

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.  Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime”.

Please pass this on to anyone whom you think might also wish to contribute, and let us know if you have any questions.

Get writing now!  The new extended deadline for submission is 31 March 2005.
