- If you're not a US citizen and want a Green
Card
- now is your chance to participate in the annual Green
Card Lottery. Between 24 October 1997 and 24 November
1997 you should send your plain-paper
entry (no forms) to one of several special addresses in
New Hampshire USA. For more information, check the
Siskind VisaLaw web site.
Or you can call the Department of State's Visa
Lottery Information Center in the US at 1-900-8648840 at a
flat rate of $5.10 per call. Applicants overseas
should contact the nearest US embassy or consulate
for instructions.
- How do I get social security from two or
more countries?
- The US Social Security Administration has recently
updated several of its so-called "totalization" agreements.
These agreements basically mean that if you've lived and worked
in more than one country, you can combine the social security
benefits of each. The US has agreements with 17 different
countries, many of which have been recently modified.
Detailed texts and updates are
available from this
US Social Security web site.
- While at the same Social Security
site
- you can find out how to find out about your future
benefits. The SSA has again decided to offer an online
service for people to receive an estimate of the their
future Social Security benefits, this time with
better safeguards and
security features. More information can be had from
the
Social Security Administration.
- Social Security is not normally paid
in cash
- but a lot of people still use "real money."
To see what the new 50 dollar bill looks like,
check out this US Treasury
web site. The new $50 note joins the new $100 note already in
world-wide circulation.
