American Citizens Abroad is undertaking a project to publish a collection
of diverse, non-fiction stories by Americans living overseas or who have lived
overseas. We are soliciting contributions from Americans living around the world. All
contributions are welcome. If you think you have a story to tell this is your
opportunity. Send us a story about your experience living in a foreign country
or working on foreign assignment. Tell us about the joys and frustrations, what viewing
your country from the outside in is like, how you relate to the United States you left behind.
The purpose of this book is to tell Americans, in particular those
back home, about what life is really like as an American living
and working in a foreign country. The book will be primarily aimed at
the general American public both outside the United States and back home. We
aim to dispel the myths about the experience of living outside
one's country of origin and hopefully, educate Americans back home, and
our government, about the difficulties, frustrations and inequalities that
Americans face when living and working overseas. To that end, a copy of
the book will be sent to all Members of the US House of Representatives
and the US Congress as well as, to the President and senior White House
staff.
Stories submitted should be 2,000 to 3,000 words in length. This will
allow for a paperback book of approximately 20 to 23 stories. If we receive
more stories than are required for the book, a decision will be made by
ACA as to which are included. All stories that are not included in the
book will be published on the ACA website or included in a second volume.
Authors will be informed as to whether their story is going to be included
in the book or published on the website.
The deadline for story submission is 30 November 2004. ACA requests
that all stories be submitted electronically via e-mail at, bookproject@bluemail.ch.
Please remember to keep a complete
back-up copy of your work. Do not send us the only copy you
have.
